Plan Your Pet’s Outward and Return Journey

A short trip abroad can change the next entry procedure.

Updated: 2026-10-11

Treat each direction separately

Write one document list for the outward journey and another for the return. CDC states that returning animals are subject to entry rules too; Singapore likewise applies import requirements to returning pets. Keeping the same owner and a return ticket does not remove these procedures.

Keep a residence and travel log

For US-bound dogs, the previous six months and vaccination location determine the branch. A side trip can change the documents needed even if the final departure airport remains the same. Keep entry and exit dates and ask whether transit or temporary stays change the destination’s classification of the animal.

Protect short validity windows

A short holiday can still need treatment abroad or a newly issued certificate. Great Britain’s dog tapeworm window runs to arrival and can expire during a delay. Identify a veterinarian and the relevant authority at the destination before departure, and confirm appointments rather than relying on availability near the return flight.
