Dog travel history, CDC procedures and separate cat requirements.
Category and travel-history branches require the stated conditions. A departure airport alone does not establish eligibility.
Check the applicable procedure
Dog · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage / Separate cargo service
For international entry into the US, determine the CDC dog procedure from all countries visited in the previous six months and the place of rabies vaccination, not just the departure airport. Direct travel between US states or territories normally does not trigger CDC importation requirements; clearing customs in a foreign country during transit changes the case.
Selected federal CDC rules. Hawaii, Guam, state requirements and USDA conditions are not fully covered. Dog rules depend on the previous six months and vaccination location, not only the departure airport.
Dog · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage / Separate cargo service
Only for dogs that have stayed exclusively in dog-rabies-free or low-risk countries during the previous six months: carry the CDC Dog Import Form receipt; the dog must be healthy on arrival, at least six months old and microchipped with a chip readable by a universal scanner. Other federal and destination requirements remain separate.

Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage / Separate cargo service
CDC requires cats to appear healthy on arrival and allows inspection or further veterinary examination when illness is suspected. CDC does not require a cat rabies certificate, but this does not remove state, territory, airline or other authority requirements.

Dog · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage / Separate cargo service
For dogs travelling directly from Hawaii, Guam, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa or the Northern Mariana Islands to a US destination, CDC importation requirements normally do not apply. If the dog clears customs in a foreign country during transit, apply the relevant US entry procedure. State/territory animal-health requirements and airline acceptance remain separate.
CDC dog rules only. Verify direct domestic routing versus foreign customs clearance; the selection does not establish local animal-health clearance. This is not a cat rule.
