Use an ISO microchip, implanted or scanned before rabies vaccination, with number/date documented. Record both numbers if re-chipped. Animals chipped outside the EU do not have to replace that chip with a Swedish-approved chip merely to obtain a Swedish EU passport; the vet records the foreign marking.

Use rabies vaccine approved where administered, at twelve weeks or older, after chip verification. Wait at least 21 days after completion of the primary protocol. A booster within the preceding validity needs no new wait; a late booster is primary and restarts the wait.

US listed-origin travel is exempt from mandatory rabies antibody testing under the EU branch. Sweden recommends checking antibodies and deworming, but these recommendations are not mandatory entry tests/treatments for this path. Requirements in any onward country remain separate.

The animal must show no obvious illness and be fit for travel. The owner remains responsible; under the selected new certificate the veterinarian also certifies health and fitness. Do not confuse a transition for the form with permission to transport an unfit animal.

Obtain the non-commercial health certificate using the selected 2026/705 model, completed by an official veterinarian or endorsed by the competent veterinary authority. Reach the first EU Entry Point within ten days from the official issue/authority endorsement. Use the correct current issuing procedure for the US; ordinary vaccine booklets alone are insufficient.

Attach original or certified identification and rabies records, with matching chip numbers. Bind the certificate and attachments as one document, number all pages, repeat the certificate reference and obtain the required signatures/stamps.

Carry the non-commercial owner declaration. An authorised companion also carries the signed authorisation and evidence of the owner’s trip within five days before or after the pet. A transfer or journey outside that window needs its own import path.

For direct entry from the US use Stockholm Arlanda or Gothenburg Landvetter, and declare the animal to Customs for identity/document checks and an Entry Point stamp. When the first EU entry is elsewhere, obtain that check/stamp there before continuing and still declare the pet to Swedish Customs.

After the first EU Entry Point has stamped the selected new certificate, it supports further EU travel for up to six months from that stamp or until rabies vaccination expires, whichever is earlier. Missing the first-entry stamp can invalidate onward travel; this is not the initial ten-day entry period.

If the listed US journey transits an unlisted country, the antibody exemption requires the appropriate transit declaration: no contact with rabies-susceptible animals and confinement in the transport or international-airport perimeter. An airport hotel outside that area is not automatically compliant.

Confirm acceptance of any older certificate: Swedish text mentions 1 April 2027 for the new veterinary health statement, while the Commission permits old forms only when issued before 1 October 2026. This batch uses the new model and does not treat March 2027 as permission to issue an old form now.
