Mexico Pet Import Requirements

Arrival inspection and origin/species-specific documents, including the US-dog screwworm document from August 2026.

Documents and identification

Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage / Separate cargo service

For pet cats arriving from the US or Canada, the described Mexican procedure does not require a general health certificate. SENASICA arrival inspection and carrier/transit documents still apply. This cat exception does not waive the newer GBG inspection document for dogs from the US.

Personal dogs/cats; the described US/Canada general-health-certificate exception is selected here for cats only. US dogs require the newer GBG inspection document from 3 August 2026. Canadian dogs need separate confirmation. No exception removes arrival inspection, carrier documents or transit requirements.

Arrival and inspection

Dog / Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage / Separate cargo service

Present the pet to SENASICA/OISA on arrival for inspection. Officials check for signs of disease, fresh or healing wounds and external parasites. Ticks may trigger sampling and retention pending results; certificate exemption is not inspection exemption.

Personal dogs and cats. The US/Canada certificate exception does not waive inspection, airline documents or transit requirements. Other origins follow a different document branch.

For the other-origin procedure described by SRE, provide the original and a copy of a good-health certificate issued no more than 15 days earlier, with owner and destination details, health examination, rabies vaccination information where applicable, and the required parasite-treatment statement. Verify the current form with SENASICA for the actual origin.

From 3 August 2026, dogs travelling from the US to Mexico need aGBG(screwworm)inspection document, signed by a veterinarian accredited by the origin sanitary authority, confirming inspection and no signs of infestation. Validity is 5 calendar days. It is additional to existing requirements and frequent-traveller registration does not waive it; not a cat requirement.

Personal dogs/cats only; apply the origin, species and transport direction in each rule. Actual authority and carrier approval remain separate.

Older cached pages still state thatUS dogs/cats need no health certificate. The newer SENASICA dog-specific GBG document supersedes reliance on a blanket no-document statement. Confirm the current document form and departure inspection timing with the issuing authority; Canadian dog conditions are a separate branch.
