Mauritius Pet Import Requirements

Manifest cargo, import permit, quarantine and dog/cat-specific tests.

Documents and permits

Dog / Cat · Separate cargo service

Obtain the import permit before embarkation. Use one signed application per pet with motivation letter, vaccination book, owner ID/passport, sterilisation certificate for ordinary personal pets and written agent authorisation where applicable. The national dog guide asks for at least three months’ advance application; the cat guide requires the permit before departure without the same numeric lead time.

Selected adult, non-pregnant personal pets shipped as manifest air cargo. Breeding, cabin carriage, excess-baggage carriage and sea travel are outside this branch; carrier acceptance and permit-specific conditions still need confirmation.

Arrival procedures

Dog / Cat · Separate cargo service

Both national guides require manifest cargo only, excluding cabin and excess-baggage carriage. Provide local broker details, notify arrival time/flight at least four days before arrival, and have the broker present for airport customs clearance. Transport availability must be arranged with the carrier separately.

Pet identification

Dog / Cat · Separate cargo service

The US certificate requires a verified microchip and six months’ continuous US residence; its sex clause permits non-pregnant females or neutered males. This ordinary-pet branch additionally follows the national guides’ sterilisation-certificate requirement. Breeding exceptions need a separate permit pathway.

Documents and permits

Dog / Cat · Separate cargo service

Have a USDA-accredited veterinarian issue the US model and obtain APHIS endorsement; digital endorsement is accepted, with the printed endorsed certificate accompanying the pet. National guides also require no clinical rabies/infectious-disease signs on the day before or day of shipment and endorsed test reports/original documents. Confirm how that recent examination is documented in the permit.

Vaccination records

Dog / Cat · Separate cargo service

Rules depend on the route, animal and operating carrier. Confirm your own journey with the relevant authority and airline.

Applicable conditions

The US model requires inactivated rabies vaccine from age three months; its certification text says the primary dose more than two months before export, but its table says at least two months. Booster interval is at least 30 days in both. Confirm the exact two-month boundary with the authority and certifying veterinarian; do not assume eligibility on that date.

Tests and conditional pathways

Dog · Separate cargo service

Rules depend on the route, animal and operating carrier. Confirm your own journey with the relevant authority and airline.

Applicable conditions

Dog titer must be at least 0.5 IU/ml. The US model places sampling more than 30 days and less than 12 months after the latest rabies dose, and one to six months before export. The national dog guide instead says wait four weeks after vaccine and at least three months after sampling, with a three-to-twelve-month pre-shipment test window. Confirm the applicable permit and reconcile the timelines; this checklist does not choose a guaranteed departure date.

Tests and conditional pathways

Cat · Separate cargo service

The national cat guide requires RNAT by FAVN or RFFIT, at least 0.5 IU/ml, sampling after a four-week vaccine interval, and at least three months’ wait before travel; its permit extract gives a three-to-twelve-month pre-shipment test window. Scan the microchip at sampling, use an approved laboratory and attach an English signed report. The laboratory also sends results to the authority. This is an additional national cat requirement absent from the US model’s dog-only titer table.

Tests and conditional pathways

Dog · Separate cargo service

The US model requires negative Ehrlichia canis and Brucella canis tests within 45 days before export, including neutered dogs. The national guide specifies Ehrlichia IFAT negative at 1:40, and Brucella slide/tube agglutination negative; arrange official report endorsement and direct laboratory confirmation to the authority.

Vaccination records

Dog · Separate cargo service

Dogs need distemper, infectious hepatitis, leptospirosis and parvovirus vaccination. The US model says more than 14 days before export; the national guide says not less than two weeks. Use the model’s strict more-than-14-day certification requirement and keep records/product details.

Vaccination records

Cat · Separate cargo service

The national cat guide requires current feline enteritis/panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calicivirus vaccination between 14 days and 12 months before export. Attach the vaccination certificates or copies endorsed by an official veterinarian.

Parasite treatment

Dog / Cat · Separate cargo service

Treat external parasites with a product whose labelled coverage includes the export date, and record product/application date. The US certificate requires the pet to be free of external parasites at inspection.

Arrival procedures

Dog / Cat · Separate cargo service

Both current national guides require quarantine at Reduit for a minimum of five days. Permit issue depends on kennel/cattery availability and compliance documents; arrange the space and provide the pet’s food, plus litter for cats. The authority may extend or alter conditions; five days is a minimum.

Breed restrictions

Dog · Separate cargo service

The national dog guide prohibits American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Terrier, Blue Nose Pit Bull, Red Nose Pit Bull, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro and Boerboel. Other listed dangerous breeds may only enter as purebreds, excluding prohibited breeds. Have the authority confirm the individual dog’s classification and pedigree requirements; the US certificate’s shorter list does not waive Red Nose Pit Bull.
