US dogs/cats use the corresponding personal-pet model, completed by a USDA-accredited veterinarian and endorsed by APHIS. Print the endorsed certificate for travel; its validity is 30 days from issue, without extending the separate pre-export examination window.

The current US models require residence in the United States during the six months before certificate date and no reported rabies in the origin establishment/premises for at least 12 months before export. These are residence and premises-history conditions, not vaccine waiting periods or a statement that all of the US is rabies-free.

The national generic text also requires veterinarian-recommended core vaccines within 12 months before export. The March 2026 annex places US origin in the non-scheduled branch. Its generic conditions impose at least seven days of arrival quarantine, with release only if free of evidence of infection; risk assessment can extend detention up to six months. Confirm the actual booking and permit conditions, not a fixed seven-day promise.

Banned dogs include Akita, American Bulldog, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Japanese Tosa, Neapolitan Mastiff and the listed pit-bull types. Restricted dogs include Bull Mastiff, Bull Terrier, Doberman, German/Belgian/East European Shepherd, Presa Canario and Rottweiler. Ordinary approval is not an exemption.

For a restricted breed, obtain MAQIS Director General’s written approval before applying for the import permit. Conditions include age at least three months, approved pedigree with chip number, importer details, residence inspection and undertakings for secure keeping and leash/muzzle in public. These conditional requirements do not apply to every dog or to cats.
