Guernsey Pet Import Requirements

Official personal-pet entry conditions obtained separately for Great Britain/Crown Dependencies and direct France routes.

Documents and permits

General Import Licence 2024/01 covers qualifying private cats/dogs accompanied by their owner or a person authorised in writing by the owner, with no more than four other pet dogs/cats/ferrets: five in total. The current licence is signed 2 September 2024 and valid until revoked; compliance with its conditions is required. This batch selects owner-accompanied travel only, not re-homing.

Selected healthy adult dogs/cats travelling with their owner for private non-commercial purposes, total at most five dogs/cats/ferrets, excluding restricted dog types/crosses and F1–F4 hybrids. GB means England, Wales or Scotland only, plus IM/Jersey direct travel without third-country calls, after lawful landing if from elsewhere. France branch: main residence in the EU, valid EU pet passport, direct approved route. Cabin/checked modes mean accompanied travel, not automatic carrier permission; independent cargo, Northern Ireland, other origins, re-homing and young animals are not covered. Confirm actual route and unresolved document/list differences.

Restricted dog types and their crosses cannot use the general dog licence; the current guidance requires a specific licence. The general licence also excludes F1–F4 dog/cat hybrids from its definitions. Check the actual type and hybrid generation with the States Veterinary Officers; this selected pathway excludes them and does not promise that a specific application will succeed.

Arrival and quarantine

Dog / Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage

Pets arriving from elsewhere must have legally landed in the UK/Crown Dependencies before onward travel to Guernsey. Merely changing planes does not establish this condition, and the Guernsey domestic-entry exemptions do not waive the earlier country’s entry rules.

Owner-accompanied adult private pets, no more than five dogs/cats/ferrets, non-restricted/non-hybrid; direct from England/Wales/Scotland, Isle of Man or Jersey without third-country calls. If previously from abroad, lawful landing there is required first. No independent cargo or re-homing.

Documents and permits

Dog / Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage

The current inward guidance says owner-accompanied pets from the UK/Crown Dependencies do not require a pet passport or other official travel documentation for this Guernsey leg. Carrier fitness-to-travel documents and restricted-animal licensing are separate.

Vaccination and health

Dog / Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage

No vaccination is required by the current guidance for this owner-accompanied UK/Crown Dependency entry branch. Discuss fitness and preventive care with a veterinarian; this is not the direct-France branch or a waiver of requirements for earlier entry elsewhere.

Advance animal-import notification is not required for these non-commercial pets travelling with their owner from Great Britain or the Crown Dependencies. Do not extend the owner exception to an independently shipped pet or automatically to an authorised person.

Transport conditions

Dog / Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage

For this branch the guidance permits any airline/ferry operator that agrees to carry the pet. The operator may require a veterinarian’s fitness-to-travel certificate. Obtain its actual pet acceptance; state entry permission does not reserve transport.

Transport conditions

Dog / Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage

The guidance permits owner-accompanied pets on a private plane or boat from the UK/Crown Dependencies. This batch selects direct travel without any third-country call; do not apply that allowance to a private plane directly from France.

Identification

Dog / Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage

A pet directly entering from France must be microchipped under the current EU-to-Guernsey entry guidance. This source does not establish a tattoo-only alternative or the detailed chip/rabies sequence.

Healthy adult private pets with owner, total ≤5 dogs/cats/ferrets, non-restricted/non-hybrid, main residence in the EU and valid EU passport; direct from France on an approved accompanied route. Not independent cargo or an AHC-return branch.

Vaccination and health

Dog / Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage

The direct-France entry guidance requires valid rabies vaccination. The linked UK travel pages do not by themselves establish Guernsey’s precise minimum age, primary wait or booster timing; those details remain to confirm with Guernsey.

Healthy adult private pets with owner, total ≤5 dogs/cats/ferrets, non-restricted/non-hybrid, main residence in the EU and valid EU passport; direct from France on an approved accompanied route. Not independent cargo or an AHC-return branch.

Documents and permits

Carry a valid EU pet passport for this selected France/EU-main-residence branch. Guernsey’s guidance states EU passports can be used only with main residence in the EU; a Guernsey/Great Britain/Crown Dependency resident’s AHC branch is separate and its return validity has unresolved wording.

Healthy adult private pets with owner, total ≤5 dogs/cats/ferrets, non-restricted/non-hybrid, main residence in the EU and valid EU passport; direct from France on an approved accompanied route. Not independent cargo or an AHC-return branch.

Documents and permits

Notify the authority in writing at least 24 hours before arrival for direct EU imports, including France. The UK/Crown Dependency owner notification exemption does not apply to this direct-France journey.

Healthy adult private pets with owner, total ≤5 dogs/cats/ferrets, non-restricted/non-hybrid, main residence in the EU and valid EU passport; direct from France on an approved accompanied route. Not independent cargo or an AHC-return branch.

Vaccination and health

Dog · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage

Dogs from France must be treated against mature and immature intestinal Echinococcus multilocularis no less than 24 and no more than 120 hours before entry into the islands. Both boundaries are included; use the actual arrival time. This is a dog requirement, not a cat treatment.

A veterinarian must administer an appropriate praziquantel dose or a proven effective alternative against the specified parasite stages. The product must have marketing authorisation in Great Britain/an EU member state or approval by the dog’s source-country authority; owner-administered generic worming is not this certification.

Healthy adult private pets with owner, total ≤5 dogs/cats/ferrets, non-restricted/non-hybrid, main residence in the EU and valid EU passport; direct from France on an approved accompanied route. Not independent cargo or an AHC-return branch.

Documents and permits

Dog · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage

The veterinarian who administers the tapeworm product must record the treatment in the valid passport for this selected branch. The licence lists other eligible documents for other branches; these do not replace the selected EU passport pathway.

Healthy adult private pets with owner, total ≤5 dogs/cats/ferrets, non-restricted/non-hybrid, main residence in the EU and valid EU passport; direct from France on an approved accompanied route. Not independent cargo or an AHC-return branch.

Transport conditions

Dog / Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage

Direct-France pets must enter on an approved route with an approved carrier. The guidance lists St Peter Port Harbour and La Vallaize Airport; airport entry must operate through Aiglle or ASG hangars. Consult the list updated 2 September 2026 and confirm the specific operator/route and pet acceptance; listing alone is not a promise of passenger pet carriage.

Healthy adult private pets with owner, total ≤5 dogs/cats/ferrets, non-restricted/non-hybrid, main residence in the EU and valid EU passport; direct from France on an approved accompanied route. Not independent cargo or an AHC-return branch.

Arrival and quarantine

Dog / Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage

If entry rules are not followed, the guidance allows quarantine for up to four months or refusal, with fees charged to the owner. This is a consequence of non-compliance, not a routine four-month quarantine for a compliant France arrival.

Healthy adult private pets with owner, total ≤5 dogs/cats/ferrets, non-restricted/non-hybrid, main residence in the EU and valid EU passport; direct from France on an approved accompanied route. Not independent cargo or an AHC-return branch.

Rules depend on the route, animal and operating carrier. Confirm your own journey with the relevant authority and airline.

Applicable conditions

For an AHC route outside the selected EU-passport branch, confirm return validity. The inward section says a GB/Channel Islands/Isle of Man AHC lasts up to four months after issue, while the outgoing EU section gives six months for re-entry to Guernsey. No definitive AHC return expiry is generated.

Applicable conditions

Confirm harbour approval before booking. The webpage calls Brittany Ferries the only approved harbour carrier, but the list updated 2 September 2026 also includes Channel Seaways at St Peter Port. This is not a definitive choice of either carrier for a particular pet journey.

Healthy adult private pets with owner, total ≤5 dogs/cats/ferrets, non-restricted/non-hybrid, main residence in the EU and valid EU passport; direct from France on an approved accompanied route. Not independent cargo or an AHC-return branch.

Applicable conditions

Confirm detailed vaccine validity/sequence, any additional tests and current service for the actual France route. The available Guernsey text is not a basis for inserting UK primary waits or an unlisted-origin certificate/titer protocol. Other origins and AHC routes remain outside this selected pathway.

Check the current restricted-type classification in writing before using the general licence. The webpage and Annex 1 do not enumerate identical names: the webpage includes Anatolian Shepherd and Ban Dog/ Bandog while Annex 1 does not name them separately. Do not infer those types are exempt from the webpage’s specific-licence requirement.
