A veterinarian must examine the animal within ten days before CVI issuance and certify fitness for travel without clinical signs of infectious or parasitic disease. This examination window is separate from the certificate’s ten-day entry validity.

Maintain valid rabies vaccination. A first dose or a dose given after the previous vaccine expired counts as primary vaccination and must precede entry by at least 21 days. For non-primary vaccination certify the last two doses; otherwise treat it as primary. This is not a 21-day wait after every timely booster.

Between five and thirty days before CVI issuance, administer broad-spectrum treatment effective against internal and external parasites, approved by the origin authority and dosed according to the manufacturer. Count from CVI issuance, not entry, and do not turn the five-day minimum into treatment within five days.

The CVI is valid for ten days from issuance. Depending on journey conditions it can be extended by at most five days; do not assume an automatic fifteen-day validity. Confirm any needed extension before travelling.

The CVI records exporting country, species/name/breed/sex/age or birth date/coat, permanent ID, sterilization status, owner or representative contact/identity, transport and responsible companion/company. Include rabies dose dates, vaccine batches/manufacturer/validity and parasite treatment dates, products, active ingredients and doses. Recording sterilization status is not compulsory dog/cat sterilization.

For animals coming from an EU member state, an EU pet passport in Spanish or English is a valid alternative only when all Chilean health requirements are met. Holding an EU passport alone does not establish this alternative for departure from a non-EU country.

Only dogs/cats previously leaving Chile with a SAG CZE under the rules from 27 July 2026 may use its original or SAG-official copy to return within 60 calendar days of issuance, with valid recorded rabies vaccination and permanent ID recorded in the CZE. Otherwise obtain a new origin-authority certificate meeting entry rules. This is not sixty-day validity for every foreign CVI; verify previous departure/document facts. Older pre-27-July departures have separate transitional conditions.
