Carry an original international veterinary certificate issued/signed by the exporting veterinary authority and meeting Brazil’s current model. MAPA requires the new model from 6 September 2025. The CVI lasts 60 consecutive days from issue, while rabies vaccination remains valid. It must cover entry; keep the original with the owner/responsible person. For the US path APHIS counts from the USDA-accredited veterinarian’s signature, not a later endorsement date.

The selected adult vaccinated branch requires current rabies vaccination with a vaccine approved in the country where administered. Record vaccination and expiry dates, product/manufacturer and batch in the CVI. The law applies vaccination from 90 days of age; younger-animal and pre-recognised rabies-free-origin exceptions are outside this branch.

After a first rabies vaccination wait until 21 days have elapsed before authorised embarkation. A booster after the previous vaccine expired counts as a new primary vaccination. The current MAPA CVI also declares that 21 days have already elapsed: arrange certification and departure to satisfy both, without signing that statement early.

Complete broad-spectrum treatment against both internal and external parasites within 15 days before CVI issue, using products approved by the exporting competent authority according to manufacturer instructions. Record dates, products, active ingredients and manufacturers. The reference date is certificate issue, not arrival.

A veterinarian registered in the exporting country must clinically examine the animal within 10 days before CVI issue, certifying no evidence of infectious/contagious or parasitic disease and fitness for transport. If electronic identification is used, the microchip must meet ISO 11784 and/or 11785 and its anatomical location must be recorded in the CVI. Keep animal identification consistent across records. This conditional clause does not establish a universal Brazilian implant requirement; origin, route and carrier requirements must also be checked.

Have the official documents and clinically healthy animal available for entry control. Non-compliance may lead to refusal, re-export, retention or other veterinary measures, with expenses borne by the owner. A previous leishmaniosis diagnosis can affect admission. These provisions do not state a fixed quarantine period for every compliant pet.

From the United States use the current APHIS-listed dog/cat CVI with the accredited veterinarian’s signature and USDA veterinarian’s official endorsement. Carry the completed official document. The form is a model for certification, not an issued permit or proof that a particular journey has been accepted.
