Qantas Pet Policy

Selected official pet-carriage conditions; route and service coverage is shown below.

Booking and advance notice

Dog / Cat · In the cabin / Accompanied hold baggage / Separate cargo service

Ordinary pets travel in a dedicated hold area through Qantas Freight. Limited available flights mean pet transport should be booked before the passenger ticket. A specialist pet transport company is recommended internationally. Assistance dogs have separate cabin rules; this passenger overview does not establish a checked-baggage allowance or guarantee every freight route.

Selected official conditions only, for the operating airline and the direction, aircraft, service and dates stated in each rule. A mode tab may contain a prohibition or unresolved condition; it does not grant carriage. Obtain actual pet space approval and origin/transit/destination clearance separately. Assistance animals, commercial movement and unlisted services need separate assessment.

Dog / Cat · Separate cargo service

Domestic Australian pets can be booked directly online, up to 100 days ahead, with a suitable separately provided/purchased crate. Short-nosed breeds require a Qantas Freight-approved pet transport specialist. Flight options and health conditions still need approval; no guarantee every aircraft can carry the pet.

Eligibility and route restrictions

Dog / Cat · Separate cargo service

International pets to/from Australia require a pet travel specialist. International puppies/kittens under 12 weeks, sedated, unwell, injured, heavily pregnant or aggressive pets are refused; animals older than 12 years need a fit-to-fly vet certificate. Active racing greyhounds are refused; retired racers need approved specialists and eligible routes. Imports normally fly directly to Melbourne, with listed NZ/Norfolk Island exceptions; government permission is separate.
